Hi @halq

The count value doesn't really mean anything and has no real bearing on what the customer is licensed for. At some point there may have been the intention to use this field to indicate how much of each feature is licensed, but I am unaware of this being used.

The license itself appears part of a traditional licensing setup to simply enable the use of a tape library (or libraries), and would not be sufficient in itself to properly run NetBackup. I would hope the customer has additional license keys to unlock additional features.

To understand what the customer is entitled to use, the customer needs to review the entitlement that would have been provided when they purchased NetBackup, or review the most recent renewal certificate to see what they are actually licensed for.

David

Hi David,

Thank you for your respond.

Yes, it is part of the license which we sold to the customer. Everything is fine, but this is the question from the customer which we could not explain clearly to them.

They considered that the "count" value is the amount of the package license, hereby they bought 01 package license so the "count" value should be equal 1 (count = 1) instead of "count = 0" as showing up now.

So more directly, to understand the "count" value here is the amount of the package license is correct or not?

Thank you!

Hi @halq

As I said the amount the license is for is determined by the customer entitltment or renewal and not the license key. The license key does not dictate the number or count. So a count of 0 means nothing by itself.

I think it may have been the intention either in the past or the future to use this part of the license to restrict the usage as entitled, but this is not the case at this stage.

David

Thanks @davidmoline for your explanation, its a really useful information and great support.

we just found out that the count value have different number base on the LIC, can you please double check?

Hi @halq

I stand by what I sadi, the only way to correctly identify what you are licensed for is to review the entitlement or renewal. The license may contain some information regarding count, but this should not be taken as what the customer is licensed for. The only thing a license key does is to unlock the features included.

Also, a word of advice, do not post the license strings of customers into a public forum (the output, sure). The license is associated with each customer.

@davidmoline Thank you for your support, I can understand and will try to get an official email from Veritas about this term.
