SAN Client doesn't use FC to backup to 5230 Appliance

Hello everybody, I wanted to thank you in advance for any help or clarification.

We just zoned one SAN client to a new 5230 appliance. After zoning was done, we did the following:

- Enable SAN Client Fibre Transport on the Media Server [use FT for backups to this Appliance] and we rebooted the appliance.

When I ran Show FC, it showed the 2 ports I zoned in the appliance (slot5 and slot 6) as Targets (that's what I wanted) and the status is "Fabric".

I tried to run a test backup but it was using the LAN, not the SAN. What am I missing?

Here is the result of the Show command on the appliance:

Have you configured the client?  Have a look at the SAN Client Guide:

Hello Chashock, THANK YOU for your guidance.

Now my test backup is using the FT, and I can see my client listed under Devices > SAN Clients.

However, I'm running my test backup and I see the speed is almost half of the speed the same backup ran when I was backing it up to the tape library instead of the appliance.

Any idea of why?

That's a full can of worms.  There are a lot of factors that can affect that.  Was the system that is now a SAN Client a SAN Media server before?

What did the config look like before you made this switch?

Before we were backing up to tape to a SAN connected library. The SAN client used to be a media server. Now the media server is the appliance. Speed used to be around 20000 Kb per Sec. Now it is around 9000.
