Hi,

I am unable to upgrade my appliance, it fails on the self test although everything else is sucessful. I have run the factory reset and gone through the GUI Appliance configuration wizard to readd the appliance to the NetBackup Environment. I am able to run a sucessful backup to this server.

This is a new install. It is currently on 2.0.2 would like to upgrade to 2.5.

Below is an output from when the appliance was re-added to the backup environment.

I was able to resolve the issues with the self test by removing enteries in the /etc/issue folder.. no reimage required (the errors were from the initial install but were no longer occuring on reboot)

mediaserver:/opt/NBUAppliance/scripts # cat /etc/issue

Admittedly this isn't the approach you'd want to take if you have production data you want to save (although doesn't sound like that's the case here), but for me when I'm going through the appliances, I'll factory reset one more time and if it doesn't behave, I'll reimage the box, reapply the patch prior to configuring and then take another run at it.  One note, if you're going to reimage make sure you remove all the Ethernet cables.  Just a best practice that I've come to do having done about 70 POC's in the last year.

I've come across the same FAIL in a recently imaged 5220. No matter what I tried (Factory reset, reconfigure, reconfigure in an another role... ), I could not update the appliance - all I had was the self test fail:

Checking if installation is successful ...                       [FAIL]

Otherwise, the appliance was working fine -e.g. the test backups are OK, hardware health is fine...

I followed Chad_Wansing's advice and reimaged the appliance, it seems to solve the issue - so for me the case is closed, minus my extra day for doing everything twice...

Btw, as I don't know the cause for sure, but I have a guess: during the first imaging, we had a small hiccup in the second phase of the installation - the disk expansion was connected, so install utilty could not find the USB stick and it was unable to continue. We halted the 5220 and disconnected the disk shelf, and in this run we were abe to complete the installation - or so we've thought. Anyway, it may be that this is irrelevant, but I think the installation was not fully succesful at allbecause of this, hence the FAIL in the self test.
