Hello All,

I have a Puredisk Server that I need to migrate to a new box. The Puredisk version am currently running is 6.6.0.308. I need a migration guide that will enable me move the data from the old box to the new box and help me reconfigure my Storage Pool with minimal complexities. I have a single storage pool and a single /Storage partition configured with VxVM.

Thanks a lot. All Suggestions are welcome.

Hi,

There is only two ways to do this.

1. New server, new policys and point all servers backing up to it at that, keep old server online for retention of data (for restore purposes)

2. Do a FULL DR backup of server1 and then install Puredisk on server2 and then do a full DR Restore (So server2 now looks like server1.

I usually do option 1 as my data is written off to tape once every 7 days so I only need to keep my old server online for 7 days. If you keep it say 12 months on disk and do not write it off to tape option 2 is your best bet.

Here is a previous topic discussing this

Hi,

How similiar the "old" and "new" servers are?

I went through such an adventure when we had a server crash: went cool. We got some fun with the Support ;)

The OS is quite stable and as long as it is x86 it should run ;)

What is the disk layout you use?
