Using an MSDP, how does the Retention work?
For example say we do a full backup every week and using an SLP we make a retention period of two weeks.
When it comes to the 3rd week, the image from the first week should expire, but does the data get deleted? So week 2 backup may still be using some of that data that was used to make week 1 as it is a dedupe pool...

I would appreciated if you can point me to a posting or some doco, to understand this more clearly.

Hi mr2ns,  MDSP and Puredisk stores the unique patterns which can be used in many images.  In your example, after the 3rd week the image will expire, but the patterns themselves may not necessarily be removed. MSDP or Puredisk purge unused patterns based on the High water mark and Low water mark that is specified on the disk pool.
