If it was saturating remote link, it must have been storing data on content router.
And if you terminated the job gracefully, the storing task would have been completed (partially though) successfully.
Which means, next time you run backup, those already stored bits will not need to be stored again.
Effectively, as you call it, it will pick up where it left off.
