NSS & full VM restore - transport types

Hello,

I am wondering if the most recent version of NSS has functionality where one can choose the transport mode for a full VM restore?

The problem is that when a backup happens over SAN using SAN datastores mounted in read-only mode on the backup host (allowing only backups) in order to avoid incidental overwriting of SAN signatures on the volumes, the restore fails with error 2820 because the backup host cannot write to the datastores.

In fact, this is also recommended practice from VMware: https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vddk.pg.doc%2FvddkBkupVadp.9.5.html

  • “Set SAN disk to read-only except for restore.”

NBD restore works fine (when initiated from NBU console) but there's no such option in NSS as far as I am aware.

Thank you very much

JPill

You are  right, NSS does not allow transport mode choice when restoring a VM.

It will be raised as a future request with NSS product management.
