AIR Replicaiton 7.6.0.3 to 8.0

We are in a need of replication many images from our old master server running in version 7.6.0.3 to our new site master server running in 8.0.

Will AIR works from 7.6.03 to 8.0 (Target).?.

i would say give it a try, if you are only trying for client backup images replication.

For catalog backup images, NetBackup supports Auto Image Replication only between the same release levels of NetBackup.

The ability to perform Auto Image Replication between different versions of NetBackup does not overrule the basic image compatibility rules. For example, a database backup that was taken in a 7.7 domain can be replicated to a 7.5.0.3 domain, although a 7.5.0.3 server may not be able to successfully restore from this newer image.

There is not difference in client image catalog in 7.6.X and 8.0 so it should work.. so give it a try and let us know how it goes.

Hello @Gnana_Sekaran,

As per the AIR configuration , both masters should be running with same software versions in order to achive the consistency.

As you know in AIR , catalog would also be replicated with metadata . The netbackup on both sides should be runing with same version for catalog import and export as they may have difference in holding their catalog images.

Yes, this will work.  It is supported to replicate from a lower version to a higher version.  Generally speaking where you can get in trouble is if you're going from a higher version to a lower, where changes have been made to the catalog structure that aren't present in the lower version.

The generally accepted best practice when upgrading domains that perform AIR replication, for instance, is to upgrade the target side first, then the source, for exactly this reason.

To be clear, you don't replicate the catalog in an AIR operation.  The image is what is replicated, and the metadata for that image is imported into the target site catalog.  That's a very different thing than replicating the catalog; it might accomplish essentially the same thing, but it is a different set of operations.
