I share with you a phenomenon very surprising! Perhaps that you already met it and if it's the case and that you've found a solution, i will be glad to hear from you.
We use NBU version 4.5MP5 on a AIX Machine running AIX 4.3.3 (that i will update soon).
I've start a backup for a AIX Client machine running AIX 5.2. I've check the log, NBU mount the media on drive than begin to write (like other backup) and suddenly the AIX Client machine reboot without error message or anything else. I don't see any errors in the logs datas.
This problem occurs only for a full backup with File directives: / and cross mount points enabled.
