Activity Monitor info

I'm new to netbackup and thus far I do not see a place where I can view the excluded files, job size, status, etc. in Netbackup aside from the activity monitor.  Status backup report has more backups listed, but does not display the necessary information.  Client Backup report does not show unsuccessful jobs, or so it seems, but at least it shows number of files and kilbytes backed up.

I read that if the information can't be pulled from the client backup report and it is no longer in the activity windows, then I am not able to retreive it anymore unless I restore a backup.  Is this accurate?  Would it cause problems if I were to keep more than 1000 hours of history in the activity window?  I realize I have to reconfigure this option.  Unless there is some way else to do it.  I will likely setup email alerts, but would like an easier way to view the info.

You should strongly consider installing Ops Center (on a separate server).  It's free and will give you access to a lot more historical data than you can dig out of activity monitor yourself. That'll be much easier to work with than trying to keep all of your data in the Activity Monitor...

Hi,

You have a lot of questions :)

  1. You can view the job status in the activity monitor under the status field, 0 means successful, 1 means partially successful, etc etc. There are hundreds of status codes that tell you if a job suceeded, or failed, and if it failed, the specific error code tells you what might be the issue. You can find a list of the codes and the possible resolution in the troubleshooting guide. You can download it from the support site. There are also more fields which you can show or hide by adjusting the layout (right click any field at the top and go to the layout section) e.g. Kilobytes, number of files, kbytes / second etc.
  2. The following technote explains what each report can show you. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH20462
Skipped files for instance will be shown in the problems report or all log entries report.
  3. Please search on the forum about notification there are a lot of posts.

Thanks, I'll take a look at ops center.  Hopefully that will offer what I'm looking for.

2.) For backup status there is a nice tool NOM. use it. it will be very helpful for you. See the below link for the NOM guide:
