Activity Monitor not displaying active drive activity

I recently installed NB6 MP3 on a new Windows 2003 server. I have a scalar 100 library with 5 LTO2 drives. With backups running and all five drives active the activity monitor sometimes only displays one drive in use i.e only one drive has the yellow arrow on it. On the drive tab it shows all the drives active but but the ones that don't show an arrow have no media label assigned. Anyone have any idea about how to have Netbackup display correctly?
Thanks

Bill,
Have you run $INSTALL_DIR\Veritas\volmgr\bin\vmoprcmd from a cmd window?

Hey Bob, no I haven't but will try tomorrow. What does that command do?
Thanks

In the display what do you have your refresh interval set to?

Activity monitor is set at 10 seconds and device monitor is at 20. I have played with the setting but when the issue is happening it doesn't have any effect.

The two commands, tpconfig and vmoprcmd, can both be run with the -d flag to determine drive status. tpconfig is used to confirm drive configuration. vmoprcmd is used to help determine the drive state. Both these commands ultimately pull drive configuration from the same place, the /usr/openv/volmgr/database/ltidevs file (robotic configuration is pulled from the robotic_defs file in the same directory). However, vmoprcmd is a representation of what was read from ltidevs/robotic_defs when ltid was last started and read that information into running memory tables

first run vmoprcmd to see if all drives are up
2nd: run tpconfig -tables to verify tape drive configuration also check serial number (sometime when you add tape drive, you make a mistake and it doesn't have serial number on it)

My activity monitor display is also usually at least slow to display as well. For me, it serves as a decent quick-view to see if anything might be running (it usually just shows the tapes positioning in the activity monitor), but if I really want to know any information I go to the device monitor. The information there is always more accurate (in my limited experience anyways).

Sorry it took so long to get back but just wanted to update the issue. First thanks for the replies, very interesting stuff.
I might have figured out the issue. I went into storage units and noticed that the storage unit I was using had "Any Available" selected under media manager. I changed it to the media manager server via the drop down and the activity monitor display functioned correctly. This was the only change I made so I think it probably fixed it.
Thanks again all,
Bill
