After Upgrade to 7.6.1.2 bpcompatd not run on Media

Dimitrios

Hello,

I have been upgraded my NetBackup environment 7.6.0.4 to 7.6.1.2 Master and all Media-Server .

Since the upgrade can not start the bpcompatd Daemon on Media-Server, Master reporting the Media is unreacheble and the Media logging the Master-Server is unreacheble.

In my test invorenment ( Same upgrade from 7.6.0.4 to 7.6.1.2 ) I have the same issue , same problem with bpcompatd .

when i try to ran in debug mode get follow:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcompatd -debug
12:48:16.542 [5205] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.444: not running on the Master Server, terminatin

Maybe have someone a simple solution for me?

Thank you in advance!

" failed: 46" might indicate a hostname resolution issue.

"not running on the Master Server, terminating" is an self check for the process to see if it needs to start. MAster and Media servers have the same start scripts, so all the services / processes get start when NEtBackup start. Then depending on the role, some services will be stopped (terminated). Basically bpcompatd is saying, "hello, i need start, am i the master? Lets look at the bp.conf. Oh, I am not the master server. I better stop then"

Post from master server

nbemmcmd -listhost -verbose

bpclntcmd -hn "media server"

Post from media server

bpclntcmd -pn

bpclntcmd -self

bptestbpcd -host "master server"

nbemmcmd -listhost

Master reporting the Media is unreacheble and the Media logging the Master-Server is unreacheble.

Where is it reporting this? EMM?

Please post

bptestbpcd -host "media server name"

nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

The compatd being down might not be an issue.

#EDIT: Just checked and bpcompatd is not running on my 7.6.1.2 appliance (media server).

Hi,

thanks for reply

Oh sorry for mistake, i mean the master try to connect the media server on bpcompatd daemon, and bpcompatd not start on media-Server because the Master is unreachable.

which makes the compat service? Or for what needed this service?

All Media  and Master - Server are reachable that is not a problem, only the bpcompatd service not running on media.

bptestbpcd -host mediasrv01
1 1 1
192.168.0.20:36890 -> 192.168.0.33:1556
192.168.0.20:56717 -> 192.168.0.33:1556

Edit:

Why logging a error to the logfile on Master like this:

14:35:11.992 [25777] <2> ConnectToBPCD: bpcd_connect_and_verify(mediasrv01, mediasrv01) failed: 46
14:35:11.999 [25777] <2> process_bpcd_connect_req: bpcompatd.c.1487: ConnectToBPCD(, sbs01nbu2cl01.sb.edeka.net) failed: 46
14:35:11.999 [25777] <2> process_request: bpcompatd.c.1347: Request 3 failed: 0
14:35:11.999 [25777] <2> process_requests: bpcompatd.c.1219: process_request() failed: 46
14:35:11.999 [25777] <2> process_request: bpcompatd.c.1332: Request BPCOMPATD_DISCONNECT_REQ 0

and on Media like:

14:46:12.028 [7340] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.444: not running on the Master Server, terminating

bpcompatd is a compatibility daemon which serves as mediator between new multithreaded process and the legacy single threaded process.

it depends on which machine this daemon is runngin if it needs to run. It would run on master/ media server for sure.

Do you get any error if you try to start that daemon?

@SymGuy-IT

yes i got a error on Media-Server if it try to run in debug mode. Why he try to connect the Master with bpcompatd and causes a error: bpcompatd not running on the Master?

The communication between master and media are given, and he make a backups. Thats not a problem

Media-Server:
mediasrv01:~ # /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcompatd -debug
14:40:05.621 [7237] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.444: not running on the Master Server, terminating

cat /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpcompatd/log.081715
14:02:10.418 [6363] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.293: VERBOSE = 0
14:02:10.435 [6363] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.444: not running on the Master Server, terminating
14:40:05.609 [7237] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.293: VERBOSE = 0
14:46:12.008 [7340] <2> bpcompatd main: bpcompatd.c.293: VERBOSE = 0

@Riaan
