Anybody know an alternative method for moving expired media back into the scratch pool other than using bpexpdate ? I am getting status 13 errors in my log file.. I know how to fix it (with bpdbm -consistency) however this takes me a while to run because of all the backups I do.

Why are you doing this?
What version/MP are you running?

Sorry let me clarify..,.

The following is what is happening:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLI

# bpexpdate -deassignempty

Search for empty media that meet the following criteria:

Host: All
Media id: All

Continue? y/n .....

Could not update media list, file read failed
file read failed

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The answers to this problem (I believe) are found here:

I'm trying to find another way of moving expired media back into the scratch pool other than using bpexpdate ... because I'm getting an error with bpexpdate and it is taking me a while to fix it.. (I'll eventually get it working I just need a short-term solution)

Hi,
The alternative is available for pre-NBU 6.0 only and it is
vmquery -deassignbyid .
Starting with NetBackup 6.0, this option can only deassign non-NetBackup media. Thus for
NBU 6.0 it will not expire media in NetBackup pool.
However a note is mentioned in NetBackup help -
Unassigning volumes may cause inconsistencies between the application media database and the volume database, leading to possible data loss. You must use a NetBackup application interface (for example, NetBackup Console) to expire the media after unassigning volumes.

From what I know if all images on the media are expired, then the media ID will get deassigned by NBU schedular 12 hours after last image expires.

Br,
Deepak.
