Application DR

sym_biosis
Level 4

We have an application DR test we will be doing through netbackup. Application is installed out of the system drive. It is installed in E:\.

What are the recommended steps to follow ?

1. Recover the server first (C:\ then System state and then reboot). Then do the E:\ drive restore and system state again and reboot again?

2. Do the C:\ and E:\ at a time. Then do the system state restore and reboot ?

First of all I would recommend using Netbackup BMR for DR restores. This simplify restores a lot. Basically you boot the server either via BOOTP or CD and re-create the server from the bare metal. If done right the entire restore will be automatic.

If you don't want to use BMR - system restore is the only option. And its has its own check list. Please note system restore below isn't recommended when hardware has been replaced with other model or types.

HOWTO: Use NetBackup to perform a restore for a total and complete recovery of Windows client(s) that include C: (and other system) drive(s), Shadow Copy Component, and/or System_State from a reliable full MS-Windows backup without IDR or BMR in the event of a Disaster (or need to fall back to a known working state).
