Take a look at the command lines guide :

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3684

In  there you will find the bparchive command and it swicthes to run

You would need to create a script or batch file that ran this command and then call it using a scheduler (cron on unix, Window Task Scheduler on Windows)

Also put bparchive in the search box at the top of this page for more tips and guidance as there will have been a lot about it on the connect forums.

Enterprise Vault is a piece of Symantec Software used for archiving from Exchange, Lotus Notes, SharePoint and / or File Systems - it basically archives your data to cheaper storage leaving a shortcut behind - all trasnparent to your users:

Hope this helps

The article shows catalog archive and it allows only user directed backups. I'm looking for automated generic policy for archiving

The Enterprise Vault policy type is for backing up your enterprise vault environment - not to actually archive anything.

If you want to archive files from a server (archive meaning back them up and if totally successful then delete those files from the client) then you just need the client to exist in a policy (Windows-NT or Standard) and then add a new schedule or the type "User Archive" with a window open at the time when such an archive is allowed to run.

To actually perform the archive you open the BAR (Backup Archive and Restore) GUI on the client itself and run the archive from that GUI.

You cannot schedule such an operation but you could script it if it is a regular thing that you need to run

Hope this helps

Very helpful answer Mark. Thanks for the clarification.

So from master server end we can't schedule an archival process. Can you share the script to create automated archival process (if you have)?

And can you give some basic idea about Enterprise vault option ? Where it is used and how it work ?..Just in few lines.
