BCV backups

NIKHIL234656595

BCV stands for business continuance volume.  It is an EMC solution for cloning production data.  You need to have an array capable of doing BCVs.  Hitachi has a smiliar method that uses a CCI (command control interface) product that I refer to as HORCM.

The idea is that you have a Disk Group A on your production server and Disk Group B on your media server.  Then you have a third disk group that floats between the two servers (BCV disk).  The BCV disk is mounted to the production server and syncs with the production disk group.  then it splits and is mount to your media server.  From there you can back up the data straigh to tape without having to cross the network.

Can anybody please provide the basic commands for this.Cron commands etc.with meaning.

We are using EMC data domain.

BCV is a disk array snapshot method. Nothing to do with Data Domain.

The disk array is where client's data is stored. If client has EMC array such as CLARiiON or Symmetrix, (or other supported arrays with snapshot capabilities) then NBU can integrate with array snapshot utilies to create snapshots and backup data using the snapshot instead of original source data.

See NBU Snapshot Client Admin Guide   for more info.
