We are doing a BMR on Hp proliant Blade server ProLiant BL460c G1 and we are using a Master backup server in VM windows 2003 enterprise 32 bit server. We are trying to restore a Windows 2008 R2 server. We are using Bootable ISO created through BMR and using for restore. The Target machine is able to communicate with the Master backup  server and the following process completed:

1. Volume shadow copy

2. Systemstate

3. C drive restore kicks and its stops in the middle with following error:

the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)

On the target machine the following error occurs

"rc=5. Verify NetBackup configuration and retry"

Kinly advise us how to proceed further,

I believe this issue is with Hp proliant Blade server ProLiant BL460c G1 client where NW driver in winpe environment has some issue and breaks restore intermittently.

Up-front I am not able to recollect details on this issue. I will get back on this in a day.

Thanks.

This is not due to the error which I anticipated.

can you provide your master server, media server and client NB version details.

also do you have the backup image still valid? Can you see it in catalog menu?

The Master server version is windows 2003 ent 32 bit with netbackup version 7.0.1

The media server is also of the same configuration but a physical server and the client is also same version 7.0.1 .

I have created new backup policy and run a full manual backup and then started the BMR restore.

The server we are trying to restore has the following:

C drive - 60 GB and free space 10 GB

D drive -20 GB

When we restore , the system state, volume shadow copy components are restored, but while the restore process kicks on for C drive and its restores 45 GB and immediately this error occurs. Once we click ignore option on the target machine, then the D drvie restore completed with out any errors. After the target host reboots and we get only the blank screen on it.

We can't go further beyond this.

I suspect if this issue is with backup integrity rather than with BMR process. Do you have the original client machine running OR is it down?

Wanted to check if you can take another fresh backup and try restoring with it.

To analyze this restore problem, we would need many NB server and BMR debug logs. I would recommed you to open a service case with Symantec to get quick resolution on this problem.

Thanks.

Mandar, sorry for the information that i have given earlier, when i checked the media server netbackup version, it is 6.5.4 . Sorry about that , now i have upgraded it to 7.0.1. We will try doing the BMR now and update you the result. Please let us whether this would be causing this BMR restore issue.

possible.

Definitely 7.0.1 has latest driver information and winpe restore env is more robust. Give a try and confirm.

Make sure to upgrade the SRT NB client version to 701 as well.

Thanks.
