BMR P2V non OS restore

Mohmec

On a BMR P2V Virtual Conversion, is the non-OS data restored during the conversion or after the server is booted up. We are successfully doing a conversion, but only c: drive is restored( missing d: ).

There is a very good reason BMR restricts multi-pathed drives. The SRT restore environment does not have any multi-path software installed on it.

In your environment are you trying to also virtualize the SAN drives? The typical norm for this is to restore the local OS drives and let the restored OS logically re-attach to the SAN drives on reboot. If they are not present, then use the running client to recreated them and then use normal NBU file restore actions for them.

The auto-P2V (or B2v) restore configurations are their own versions and types. They are based on the "current" configuration created by the client on backup.  The disk layouts cannot be modified and as such cannot be unrestricted.

Hello

What did you select for the option "Restore system disks/volumes" when you did the PTR?

I did not select this option. On second try I did select this option but both times only OS is getting restored.

How did you do the PTR? Current of copied config? Did it list all your disks when you went through the virtual machine conversions wizard > storage destinations?

Can you post C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin>bmrs -operation list -resource B2VrestoreTaskLog

as well as the detailed job status

Riaan,

I tried with copy and current. Restore job was succesful.

Are source disks being on SAN ( EMC Powerpath ) not supported as part of the BMR conversion.    I see some reference to restrictions and from the BMR screen, the disk is greyed out

Hello,

PLease see this note.

Thank you Riaan.

Assuming virtual conversion, we *should* be able to restore SAN d: drives based on how I read this:

"Though any file systems running over the multi-pathed disk/s can be recovered to alternate non-multipathed disk/s. For example, if client setup has EMC PowerPath enabled over SAN Luns then BMR backup will mark those SAN Luns as restricted. User can recover file systems on top of them to either local disks or other SAN Luns not having multi-path enabled"

Yes, you must just follow the procedure to unrestrict the disks.

Also understand that the main function of BMR is the DR of the OS disks.  That part is critical.  The non-OS data drive are just coming along for the ride.  BMR can be used to restore them (for the most part) but they are not on the critical path.

Hi Jaime,

But you can create a copy/custom config correct? And there you could unrestrict them, or not?
