Backing up vSphere virtual machines with 2 vCenters

Hi

I have a query with regards to backing up virtual machines in an environment with 2 vCenter leveraging on Netbackup 7.1.0.3

1) Previously our environment consists of only 1 vCenter server version 4.1. We have a proxy server running Netbackup 6.5.4 to perform the VCB backup. We had no issue browsing the virtual machines with the above configuration.

2) Subsequently, we added a new vCenter 5.0 into the environment. We set up another proxy server running Netbackup 7.1.0.3 to perform the virtual machines backup using vStorage APIs. When we have 2 vCenters in the configuration, we were not able to browse the virtual machines.

In order to resolve the problem of not able to browse the VMs, we have allowed the firewall port comm from both

  • proxy server (1) to vCenter (1) & (2)
  • proxy server (2) to vCenter (1) & (2)

Is this a mandatory requirement that all proxy servers need to communicate with all vCenters in an existing environment? Has anyone encountered this issue?

Thanks in advance.

There are no options which specify proxy host used in query. All of proxy host configured in your environment become its candidate, so you should allow access to vcenter severs from all of your proxy host.
