Backup DriveLetter gives error 90

PoNuts
Level 3

When adding drive G:\ througout the Browse gui it gives me an error 90. A tip in this forum is that add an extra * at the exclusion.

G:\

should be:

G:\*

"1: (90) media manager received no data for backup image" a typical error message:"

"SET SNAP_ID=bkshpsql01.borlange.local_1454322805
BACKUP G:\ USING \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy306\ OPTIONS:ALT_PATH_PREFIX=C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\temp\_vrts_frzn_img_3352_1,FITYPE=MIRROR,MNTPOINT=G:\,FSTYPE=NTFS"

What I'm more after is why does Netbackup do this in technical terms?

My question to you:

Why add G:\ to Backup Selection when it is already added to Exclude List?

The recommendation is to add G:\* to Exclude List when ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES with Allow Multiple data streams is in the policy.

The reason :

ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES is determined by a process between the master and the client - the master requests the client to run a command (bpmount) and report back local drives.
The master starts a stream for each drive letter.

The media server connects to the client and requests individual bpbkar process for each drive letter.
Only at this point does bpbkar on the client look at Exclude List.

The job for G:\ with G:\* will be successful as empty root folder will be backed up - something like 32KB.
G:\ job with G:\ in Exclude List will fail with Status 90.
