Hello All,

Does anybody knows how to apply tunning or which parameters can be tunned to have best performance while duplicating a backup?

Best regards

That's a truly open ended question!  There are tons of docs available - but the question is - who is not performing well and needs to be tuned to increase performance?

Tuning will vary based on:

- Type of duplication:

i.e. disk to disk, disk to tape, tape to tape

-  Type of hardware.

- Type of operating system

- Location of storage being read from and written too

-  Sometimes network bandwidth

Start with the basics - try to identify who is the bottleneck - is it read or write?  See if you change the source or destination if the issue follows.

Review the buffer settings on your system.  See the following for information:

Where are the values for SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS, NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS and NET_BUFFER_SZ located on Windows NetBackup Servers?
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH19206

Check out the NetBackup Backup Planning and Performance Tuning Guide:http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4483

If using Advanced disk  - see the AdvancedDisk Storage Solutions Guide

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5149

There is a lot of information available and sometimes a little difficult to determine where to start.  If in doubt - I would encourage you to open a case and ask the support org to help you identify where the bottle neck is so that you can determine what to tune a bit easier.

Unfortunately tuning normally requires trial and error to find the best values; so please don't expect a one answer fits all sort of thing.  It takes a bit of time and patience.

Have a good day!

Even tried a lot of tuning suggestions the creating image from deduplicated pool takes even more time than the backup itself (when backup stream has to be inspected for deduplicated data).

What's the issue with the reading of dedup pool? Many times there is faster to run second backup than duplicate existing one.
