Hi,
Greetings to All!
I would like to take some suggestions from experts for the current situation we have. I am learning Netbackup now.
We have some ex-employees mailboxes in exchange which are consuming large amount of space.
So the exchange guy created a new database and moved all those inactive mailboxes to this database. Now our plan is to take one backup of this database keep it for ever on backup media (Just in case if we need to restore) and delete these mailboxes from exchange.
Could any one please tell me how to do it?,
Currently I am taking GRT backups for exchange. So i will create a policy and change the retention period to infinity (level 24) (I dont know what level 24 is).
But my concern is can i take only this database backup?
By the way We have exchange server 2010 on DAG.
Thanks

Yes you can specify to backup only one database in your policy.
Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\database name.

You will need a infinity retention for the backup. Usually infinity is retention level 9 in Netbackup.
Netbackup will not expire backups with infinity retention.

Hi,
Please update us. Did it work?

If you are doing GRT backups of the DAG/database, please take note of the requirements from Exchange point of view to restore a mailbox and/or single items.
One such requirement/limitation is that granular level restore can only be done to a mailbox that exists.
So, if you want to restore mail items for a deleted user, you will need to select another mailbox to restore to or recreate the user if you want to restore to original location.
As per Nicolai's post - level 9 is normally used as Infinity.
Level 10 - 24 are also Infinity, but can be customized to anything you want.
