Backup failing with error 58

Hi,

I have newly installed netbackup client agent 7.5 on the windows 2003 x86 machine, backup is failing with error 58

Master is linux 7.5.0.6 and media is windows (7.5.0.6)

normal ping is working fine. but bptestbpcd is not working.

i have enabled the logs in client sever but no logs are generated in the logs.

Please find the attachment of bptestbpcd from master and out of bpclntcmd -pn from client.

from client end ports are reachable to both media and master.

windows firewall is diabled

Telnet is connected for bpcd, vnetd and pbx but its getting hung and not exiting...will this be a issue?

Please let me know what else to be checked and get this backup successful.

Thank you

yes, you must be able to telnet to 1556 (pbx). If you can't connect to pbx via telnet keep investigating in that direction.

Login to the client and run:

netstat -a | findstr 13724

netstat -a | findstr 1556

netstat -a | findstr 13782

Hello,

12:49:36.544 [64537] <2> logconnections: BPCD CONNECT FROM 162.116.197.231.589 TO 162.116.108.34.13782 fd = 3

your master/media (162.116.197.231) is trying to connet to client (162.116.108.34), and is not able to connect.

can yu proivide the output of :

nslookup 162.116.197.231

and check what server above resolves to and add that entry to clients registry. try bptestbpcd after that.

Thanks,

Venkatesh

Hung state is not a good sign.. it looks like after the connection is establish some device is terminating it...

Please check which device on n/w path is disconnecting or blocking the traffic

then clear host cache and try again bptestbpcd

@Raain, telnet for 1556 is connected but not exiting from telnet

@revaroo, used the command netstat -a in client server, only port 1556 is listening and 13782 & 13724 did not give any output.

There is no attempt in bptestbpcd to connect to pbx (port 1556). Why would that be? Has anyone changed Client Connect options for this client? Have you checked with OS and/or network team to find out if there is a firewall between server and client? Or any other kind of security /AV software on the client that is blocking TCP connections?

@Marianne,

No one has changed any connect options as this is newly installed machine.

I can telnet all the ports but it hung....does it mean anything?

@mariann,

Checked with network team, there is no blocking in firewall for the ports1556, 13782, 13724

Try to uninstall NBU client software, then reinstall 7.5, followed by 7.5.0.6 patch. Create bpcd log folder after reinstallation and try bptestbpcd again. PS: How did it came about that this is a new installation on an OS that has reached EOSL from Microsoft?

i tried that too...it did not work.

One more thing you can do is for only test

Add in NBU master server additional servers the ip address of the client

Try backing up the client with the ip address

Please also check on the client if you have multiple nics...

if so then correctly update the host file or disable the other nic and see if it works
