Hi,

Client Server  : Windows 2003 OS

Activity Monitor Job logs :

06/18/2014 09:47:51 - begin writing
06/18/2014 10:55:07 - Warning bpbrm (pid=7188) from client npbms4: WRN - can't open file: \\NPBAPP\DATA2\HP-Share\_HP_Dept_folders\ Integrity\Customer\Video\work\01R-001-01-PCBl1-l3+bot_area_a.hfssresults\.HFModel1.asol_priv.semaphore (WIN32 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. )
06/18/2014 10:55:11 - Warning bpbrm (pid=7188) from client npbms4: WRN - can't open file: \\NPBAPP\DATA2\HP-Share\_HP_Dept_folders\ Integrity\Customer\Video\work\01R-001-01-PCBl1-l3+bot_area_a.hfssresults\.HFModel3.asol_priv.semaphore (WIN32 32: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. )

There are many missing files, I have just mentioned two of them above.  Can I ignore these files or add in exception?

I heard that .semaphore files have been created for temporary file, is that true ? What can be the reason for not taking backup of these files ?

Thanks in advance..

Hi,

You're backing up a network share \\NPBAPP. VSS is therefore not involved. The files are locked by some application access them. You should check with the adminstators of the application that is accessing that folder. They'll be able to say if those files can be excluded.

what is the netbackup version?

does VSS and open file backup is enabled for this server?

you can check this from Master server host properties---> client attributes.

status code 1 is very common for Windows server... so nothing to worry unless you see that something is missing that you need...

Netbackup Version is 7.1 and VSS and open file backup is enabled for the server.

Is this temporary created files ?

Riaan, is right.. its a network path.. and its beiing used by the other app or server...

. only the owners of the files can say if they need the backup of the files or not.

Speak  to server/application owners.

They will be able to tell you which files can be excluded.
We cannot tell you.

You need to check what type of application that generate the files and if they can be excluded safely.

If they are temporary files you can add *..semaphore to the exclude list.

VSS support backup of system locked files, but does not grantee backup of  files locked by other applications.
