If a client we were to take an existing server being backed up by Symantec (i.e. sysmemrexa1-p.mycompany.com)… and they shut it down, rename it (and change IP address), assign a new “backup ip” that was given to them by the netbackup admin group and started it back up…,
for example
Old Name/IP: sysmemrexa1-p.mycompany.com/ 181.52.16.341
New Name/IP/: vamsupapp509-c.mycompany.com / 11.190.5.45 / 11.336.9.65
If we needed a restore from the “old” backup policy name/client the following should work correct?
Activate the old backup policy that was using the previous name for backup
Edit the hosts file (on the master) server enter the new Ip address next to the old backup policy client name and perform the restore?
I realize this may be a simple thing to do however I am just making sure.
Thanks

Yes there is - you give the new server permission to restore from the old server.
In Netbackup term its called altnames rights.

Alternate Client restore from the master server can be done any time.
Select sysmemrexa1-p.mycompany.com as source client and vamsupapp509-c.mycompany.com as destination client.
Best to prepare before Client name in policy is changed. On master, do the following:
cd /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images
ln -s sysmemrexa1-p.mycompany.com vamsupapp509-c.mycompany.com
All new catalog entries for backup of new name vamsupapp509-c.mycompany.com will be written to sysmemrexa1-p.mycompany.com folder.
Attempts to restore can choose any of the old or new client name - it will find backups no matter which of the 2 names is used to browse for backups.
