Backup to disk then to tape

rosidah

For Symantec to backup to disk and then to tape, must the disk be an external disk storage or can the server internal hard disk be used for that purpose?

The statement “A BasicDisk type storage unit consists of a directory on locally-attached disk or network-attached disk….” , can someone clarify the meaning of locally-attached disk? Does it mean an internal hard disk or an external hard disk attached directly to the server?

Thank you.

hi ,

it can be external or internal disk, anything will work of Basic disk.

locally-attached disk means its internal hard disk, even external hard disk also can be Basic disk.

and the disk that you get from SAN, or from NFS mount  also can be used for basic disk.

You can use internal  hard disk for Basic Disk storage unit, but be sure not to use system volume(C:\), root file sytem, or any other filesystems that is important for system to work. Once the volume become full by backup data, system may become unstable. You should prepare dedicated filesystem for Basic Disk.
