To verify that all processes are running on UNIX servers
To see the list of processes (daemons) running on the server and on the Media Manager, enter the following command:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpps -x
If the master server is also the EMM server, ensure that the nbemm and the nbrb services are running. If neither service is running, start them by entering the following two commands. If only one of the services is running, start the other service by using the appropriate command.
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/nbemm /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/nbrb

To add to wr's post, if the steps listed doesn't resolve the issue, please try bouncing NetBackup services.

In addition to the above also make sure that you have not run out of disk space on the netbackup installation drive as it will protect NetBackup by taking the services, especially EMM down which could cause similar errors.
If this has just started to happen and disk space is OK then you need to try and see what has changed such as new programs installed, firewall or anti virus changes etc.
Run a vxlogview against nbrb to see if it registers what is causing it to shut down
