Barcode problem

Hi all exports,

I have my media in Netbackup volume pool. I did inventory of robots and it showed wiered barcode of two tapes.

The media id should be 000016  and 000003 but it shows the media id like 000J16 and 003L3. The barcode should be like 000016L3  and 000003L3 but it displays 000J16 and 003L3. My Netbackup version 6.5 and we use Sun storadge C4.

delete it from the library and put a new barcode on it.

Delete what? I mean i will delete the barcode from the library of the media# 000003?

pull it out of the library and put a new bar code on it.

I'm sure it has no data on it, if it does you cannot delete it from the database the only way to remove the knowlegeof this tape is to do a bpexpdate -ev 003L3 -d 0
then delete it

Yes it has no data in it. Can you give me tips to delete the barcode manually and reassign it. I know you are the expert and your help will ever be greateful to me.

you have to delete the images first then delete it from the library.

Hi,

      You can also change the number of characters that Netbackup automaticly takes from the barcode, default is last 6 chars, you can change this to be the first 6, normaly the L3 at the end is to indicate that is LTO3 media, other thing can be that the bar code is wrong.

How i can resolve my above issue. I deleted the medis id 00L3 and added the new media with barcode on it. It shows the same thing when i update the robot,

What is the steps to solve this problem? Please help.

I guess we do have to level it.

eject the tape from the robot.

then delete the tape from netbackup.

you can try using the same barcode or give it a new one.

then put it back in the robot and update.

If you give it a new one try to do a bplabel on it once it is back in the robot.

What I think you don't know.

your robot as a list of what it has inside. its own little database keeps track of this.

then you have the netbackup database of tapes with what it thinks is in the robot and what is not in the robot.

if you delete a tape from netbackup but do not take the tape out of the robot, and you try to use the same slot or do an update, the netbackup database will want to update itself to what the robot says.

in the same vain, if you take a tape out of your robot by hand, and do not update netbackup then netbackup will think the tape is still in the robot.

so to start, take it out of robot, delte it from netbackup, put tape in with same or new barcode and update and sew what it reads in as.

I resolved the issues yesterday.

1) Deleted the tape vm delete command
2) Regenerated the barcode.
3) Shut down the netbackup console and library too
4) Inventoried the robot and worked
