Hi all ,

Thanks for your reply.

my question is :

1. What is BMR ?
2. At what seinario it should be used ?
3. is compression works ?
4 . if  we enable BMR option for a client does this effect MSEO ?

Thanks in advance

first u should backup something w/ that option,

w/ BMR U R able o restoring FULL system, as an example I was trying to resotre a TS server in a Virtual Box (virtual machine).

 - if your server crash but REALLY crash (burn or something) U can restore the System to a new server w/ different hardware

Dissimular Restore enables U to restore in diferent Hardware, example:
- Back up a Windows 2003 server  with  BMR option
- take off the server HD, put a new one  and resore it up, VERY usefull to safelly expand Drive C:

even in a completelly different Hardware (of course there is no magic, U Will not able to restore Windows in SPARC processors)

Our Friend here Zahid has a GREAT tutorial in Download session.

Configured Master Server - easy
Configured Media Server - easy
Configured Client - easy
Configured Boot Server - easy, or so I thought
Created SRT - what a pain - need OS disk, need Netbackup disk, need Veritas License (vlic) disk, need VxFS disk, need VxVM disk - whew!
Backed up the client - oops forgot to check the right boxes, do it again
Prepare to Restore - it complained about Veritas compatibilites
Redo SRT - see above
Prepare to Restore - OK
Boot client - oops, different subnet - tried various workarounds that usually work with Jumpstart to no avail
Configured another Boot Server - on the correct subnet
Prepare to Restore - cannot find SRT
Redo SRT - again? this is getting old
Prepare to Restore - OK
Boot client - boots fine, formats the disks, lays out partitions, starts the restore
I/O error on the tape - restore fails :(

We are thinking about implementing BMR in our environment - any other horror stories?  Any praises?

Not applicable

~ NetBackup Bare Metal Restore option automates and streamlines the server recovery process, making it unnecessary to manually reinstall operating systems or configure hardware. With simple commands, complete server restores can be accomplished in a fraction of the time without extensive training or tedious administration.

We are strictly a Solaris shop as far as NBU is concerned.  We are a small shop with the Master and Media servers residing on the same SUN V240 server connected to a SUN SL500 library via a pair of QLOGIC Fiber channel swx and to the SUN 6540 SAN.

Has anyone done a system restore from one model of SUN server to another?  What problems did you encounter?
IE: Original server ---  V240
      New server       ---   V490

What about recovering / restoring ORACLE software / database(s)?  Any issues with license keys?
What about rebuilding the NBU master server / media server on different servers?

Thanks in advance for any advice / information anyone can give me.
