If at all possible - attend a 5-day classroom training course.
use the Traning link at the bottom of the page to find training location in your country.

The next thing to do is to download NBU manuals and start reading. You can find links to all manuals in 'Handy NBU Links' in my signature.
Start with the 'Getting Started' Guide and then the Admin Guides.
Troubleshooting and Installation Guides are also helpful.

Last but most important is to practise in a lab environment. You can use VMs to use/test NBU.

If you want to learn NetBackup then use command lines as often as possible. If you must use a GUI then follow through with looking up the commands in the commands manual after you have finished your required tasks. Add /usr/openv/man to your $MANPATH and use them. Also helpful are the usage printouts that show up when you use the bp$command -help

Thank Marianne for the link for this process flow and use it to learn the different services

Marianne, this is twice in one day that I shared that link above. Have you considered adding it to your list of handy links :)

Good advice above.

I can only add to ride a bicycle, you can read & ask for help, but someday you just have to jump on, fall a few times until you get it right.  Hopefully in a test environment rather than production!
