Please ALWAYS select or mention NBU versions as well as OS.
Up to NBU 7.0, connection both ways will by default try port 13724 (vnetd).
As from 7.1, PBX is used by default (port 1556).
As mentioned above, it seems as if client cannot resolve server IP address to a hostname that appears in client's SERVER list.
bpcd log will confirm.
So, check bpcd log for incoming IP address from media server.
Next you will see how (if) Client is resolving IP address to hostname.
Following this the client will compare resolved hostname to list of known servers.
Please bear in mind that SERVER entry must match resolved name exactly.

* The server is not listed on the client as a valid server.
* The client was configured to require encrypted backups, but the encryption attribute for the backup policy on the server was not selected.
* The evaluation license for the NetBackup Encryption product has expired on the server, but the NetBackup client was configured to require encrypted backups. As a result, the server tries to make a non-encrypted backup of the client. Since the client is configured to require encryption, the backup failed.

Please provide bpcd logs and also some information regarding your servers OS, Netbackup Version.
Also check if entries of all interfaaces of master and client are listed in bp.conf ?
also check for name resolution issues.
