Hi Team,

One of Media server, the CPU utilization high,

Media server :- NBU 6.5.6, solaris 5.10

Memory: 8192M real, 5609M free, 1622M swap in use, 21G swap free

You have 15 x bptm processes running - can i confirm you have 15 jobs / duplications running during this period?

If not something has been orphaned

If it is doing 15 jobs you could expect the processes to be utilising the CPU although there are things that can be done to tune everything but we would need to know more about you setup etc.

Hope this helps

Those processes shown by 'top' do not seem to be the culprits - most of them are 'sleeping' and the running ones are hardly using any cpu:

3361 root 1 1 0 110M 31M run 6:25 3.07% bptm
3328 root 1 1 0 110M 31M run 6:21 2.99% bptm

7298 root 1 29 0 110M 31M cpu0 2:09 1.05% bptm

4580 root 1 41 0 110M 31M run 14:42 0.63% bptm

2102 root 1 55 0 174M 34M run 3:33 0.28% bptm

What does 'prstat' report? e.g.
prstat -s cpu -n 5

CPU usage of individual bptm processes seem low.

I don't see anything to be concerned about....

ok, Marrianne,

will see today load on it and let you know again..

High CPU usage when multiple BPTM processes running is quite normal. However most of the CPU usage reported may be "wait for IO" - and thus not "real" CPU usage.

Processor utilization and wait I/O -- a look inside
