I am using Data Protection Advisor and wish to replace with NetBackup however still want to be able to restore from legacy tapes written using DPA.
Is there any way in which NetBackup would be able to restore files from tapes where DPA was used as the backup software?

As far as I am aware Data Protection Advisor is a reporting tool from EMC. Not a backup product.
See http://www.emc.com/collateral/software/data-sheet/h1767-data-protection-advisor-ds.pdf
Anyway, whatever the backup product, NetBackup will not be able to read it.
The only other backup product that NBU can read is older versions of Backup Exec.
Customer will have to keep a server with 'other' backup product and at least one standalone tape drive to restore data backed up by that particular product.
