Can Netbackup Take Backup of Maped Drives...???

we are Using Netbackup 7.5 on Windows Master Server

I have a Windows 2003 Server A of which Snapshot Backup is failing...so I can I Map its Drives to Windows 2008 Server B and take Backup of Server B...??

■ master1 is the NetBackup master server.
■ win_client is a Windows NetBackup client.
■ win_PC is a Windows computer (not necessarily a NetBackup client) and contains a shared folder named TestData.
The following procedure backs up the folder TestData on win_PC through win_client.
To back up the example folder
1 On the NetBackup master server, master1, create a policy for win_client.
2 Add \\win_PC\TestData to the file list of the policy. This step is not necessary if the policy is only used for user-directed backups.
3 On win_client, the NetBackup client:
■ Change the NetBackup Client Service on win_client to StartUp or LogOn with the same account as the user that performs the backup. This user account must have read permissions for the share that is to be backed up.
The account must have write permission to perform restores.
■ Stop and start the NetBackup Client Service so the new account takes effect.

On the 2008 box are the netbackup services running under and account that has access to the admin shares of the 2012 server?   

You might use fqdn in the name selection. 

For the OS backup I'd think you'd really want to run that from the source system.  Can we see the errors of the snapshot failing?

yes the Services are Running.. and the backup of  WIN2008 Server (TMRDPCFIL01) are succesful as well..

however the Snap shot error of Source Client are as below.. ( note that Server Has C:\, D:\... and systemstate) and we have initiated multistreeming this cause the C:\, D:\ backup fail... however systemstate backup is completed succesfully.

please Suggest if any hope in below failure as I checked the VSS is properly running on this client..

If you create a folder on the client under

<install path>\veritas\netbackup\logs\

called bpfis

So on a default install this would be c:\program files\veritas\netbackup\logs\bpfis

This will great a log for the bpfis server (processes snapshots for backups)

After creating this new folder run the backup again.  It will make a txt file with more info in it about the snapshots.  After the job finishes/errors out.  collect this file and delete the folder.  If you don't delete the folder it will create a fiel every time a backup runs.  Post the file contents here. 

Also you may want to run vssadmin list shadows to see if anything is hanging out there.

The error: from client TMRDPCFIL01: TRV - object not found for file system backup: \\IBMPNTDTP046570\c$\ indicates that the NetBackup client service is not able to access this share. Just to make sure, are you able to get to this share with the account that NetBackup client is running under?

Also your getting status 156. Try looking at TECH75214. This is a indication that the client is using Windows Open File Backups to protect open or active files. The volume "snapshot" that occurs to facilitate open file backup has failed. This failure is often caused by the VSS cache file running out of allocated space. You can always have windows try to kick off a snapshot as that is what NetBackup does.

Check the status of the vss writers and providers:

vssadmin list providers

vssadmin list writers

What exactly are you trying to troubleshoot?

The snapshot error of W2003 client or the backup of mapped drive on the W2008 client?

Let us troubleshoot one problem per post - not both.

About the snapshot error:
You can see from vssadmin output that there is a problem with VSS - which is a Microsoft issue.

Sometimes a reboot clears VSS issues.
Best to look on Microsoft Support site for latest VSS hotfixes for W2003.

Sorry friends.. Actually.. The troubleshooting took way of 156 error... Let us stick to subject of this post... I wanted to know.. How to take backup of maped drives.. Does it differ from version of windows? To take such backups... What are the steps we need to adhere to...?

You firstly need to to check the logon account of the NetBakup Client Service on the W2008 client that will backup the mapped drive.

Ensure that the domain logon account has sufficient read and write access to the mapped volume.

Test by logging on to the W2008 server as the same user used for the Client Service Account.
Open the BAR GUI and see if you can browse to the network path on the W2003 machine.
(All of this is described in NBU Admin Guide I). 
You can add a User type schedule with open window to existing W2008 policy to actually test a backup of a small test folder on the network path that you select in BAR GUI.

When this is successful, create a new policy for the network drive.
Select Backup Network Drives in policy Attributes, add backup schedules, add W2008 client in Clients tab, add the UNC path in Backup selection.
(I have never tried with Admin share (C$) - only with share names as described in NBU Admin Guide I.)

PS: 

It will be best to troubleshoot and solve snapshot issues on W2003 client.

If you open a new discussion for that, we will see if we can assist with that. Have a look at other recommendations for VSS issues in this discussions and let us know what you have tried so far when opening a new post for status 156.
Include all text in Details tab of failed jobs as well as bpbkar and bpfis logs.
Copy logs to .txt files (e.g. bpfis.txt) and upload as File attachments.
