Can't login to the netbackup WebUI

Cannot access the netbackup WebUI, using 8.1.2. The login page comes up asking for user name and password.

I either get an "you are not authorized" message or "Enter a valid user name or password" message depending on using an admin or user account.

I belive the nbsecadmin account is used to set this up?

there is no documentaion on the nbsecadmin credentials here so the password is not known. the default appliance PW doesn't work so I assume someone at install set it.

I'm thinking of resetting this nbsecadmin account PW but unsure of the implications. I believe but could be wrong that this account is strickly for the WebUI?

Disclaimer: I have no experience with the NetBackup Appliance.

Have you followed the Web UI Admin guide for setting up RBAC? Before configuring AD/LDAP connection, the only way for me to login was using root credentials on my Linux master server.

I am guessing that you will need to login first time with a local account (for example: Administrator/root ro the account you use to access the java UI), to setup RBAC.  Once you configure RBAC you will have choices as to how to authenticate.  Most will use your companies authentication method to give users access to parts of NetBAckup.  It is possible to use RBAC to give complete protection tasks to various  users such as security admin or VMware admin.  Future versions will add other user pre-defined roles.

The First Time Access needs to be a root /Administrator Account.

Please do note that accounts in sudoers will NOT work . If on Unix , username has to be root

Once logged on, you need to set roles and permit user access based on roles.

That's just it I don't know what was done initially, I'm new looking into getting it working. We have Linux,

is it done from https://masterservername/webui/login and is root used when logging in there? or is it done from CLI?

Hey

Yes, please use root to access this page. Once you will be there you can configure other users to be able to access this portal.

Yes @gcgagnon

 Login Page : https://masterservername/webui/login

Username : root

Password : <root password>

OK thanks. I'll check that when I can and pass that on here.

As I said earlier, refer to the documentation.

First time login https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/135031700-135031704-0/v132544019-135031704

Configure RBAC https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/135031700-135031704-0/v131900919-135031704

^^^ includes adding an AD or LDAP domain using the vssat command, review RBAC roles, add object groups, and add access to users using access rules.

You are fine to reset the nbsecadmin password as-needed; the purpose of that account is to manage RBAC access in the new web GUI. So reset the password, login using that account, then proceed with authorizing any other accounts you might need.

No root account password is needed (although you'll need root, or sudo access to reset the password in the first place presumably.)

I can't answer whether this is going to work for me. There's a different issue at this point and that is what's the root password. Being new here that's not the answer I want to here. I'll pass on what I find out when I can.
