Hi All,
There is new requirement from coustmer to check as below. Kindly advise.
1) Can use Isilon shares for create new ALTPATH for image database. Currently catalog DB sitting on block stroage and no more additional space to increase the size. 2TB filled up out of 2.1TB. so coustmer asking to check on Isilon shares can use for that?
I found the https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH158868 article says NFS shares not recommended, stil im bit confusion on technote mentioned about "SAN/NAS" info.
2) If Isilon shares cannot any other alternate ways?
3) Coustmer environment 20 years retention for the filer backups. in this sceniro how catlog compression interval helps ?
Found Marrine advise on below technotes. how to set for more than 3 years images at compression on master? or client properties?

4) any other archival solution of image database to another file system under SATA?
Thanks in advance.!

Hello
Were you considering bpcatlist, bpcatarc etc?
Check out this site https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/15263389-130536298-0/v14659871-130536298
"bpcatlist is the starting point for all catalog archiving operations. Use bpcatlist to select the specific parts of the NetBackup catalog with which you want to work. All files-file (image .f files), the largest files in a NetBackup catalog, that are selected for bpcatarc, bpcatres, or bpcatrm, are first selected with bpcatlist. The output of bpcatlist is piped to the action you want to perform."

Please confirm which OS on your master server?
ALTPATH is normally associated with a Windows master server. Is this what you have?
The TN that you found only deals with IO requirements of the NBU relational database.
The TN that is referenced in this doc: Best Practices for NetBackup Catalog layout deals with images database as well.
The I/O requirements for the images database is not specified, but it does say that you can relocate to separate file systems to reduce I/O contention and improve performance. Can you confirm that I/O on new location will be same or better?
About moving the image catolog, see this extract from NBU Admin Guide I:
https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/doc/18716246-126559472-0/v41242856-126559472
NetBackup does not support saving the catalog to a remote NFS share. CIFS is supported on some SAN or NAS storage.
There is no explanation of what some means in this context.
You may want to use the red Feedback link to request clarification or else log a Support call.
The image catalog resides on the master server only, so, part of Master server Host Properties.
See Chapter 2 of NBU Admin Guide I: https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/18716246-126559472-0/v40147083-126559472

Thanks Quebek/Marriane,
Going for the bpcatarc option to tape as per the support recommendation.
Last query, we are planning to upgrade out NBU version from 7.7.3 to 8.1 by this year end, if i do catalog archival now, will be any issue if i do retrival this archived files after the version upgrade? mean will be there any issue raise with version changes?
same tape can be used for mutliple archival job by year wise? ex; 2015, later i can use same tape for 2016 archival files....?
Thanks in advance
