Hi All,

Can we merge Catalog of mutiple existing Netbackup Master server to new centralised master server and can we merge the MSDP data from existing mutiple sites to a MSDP of a new centralised site? Data backed up on Tape and MSDP. Master servers and Appliance forming MSDP are of mixed versions.

Hello,

as for Catalog Merge - yes, but it is no publicly documented scenario. You should contact VERITAS partner and ask for CatMan (Catalog Manipulation) consulting services.

as for MSDP merge - yes, it is Auto Image Replication setup. It is well documented in publicly available Deduplication Guide.

Regards

You need to engage with a certified Catalog Manipulation specialist.

Master server merge:

How to migrate the NetBackup catalog information from one platform to another (UNIX to Windows or vice versa), rename a Master Server, cluster an existing Master Server, or merge multiple NetBackup domains.
http://www.veritas.com/docs/000026956

MSDP merge will require manual or scripting of duplication/replication once the master server merge is completed.
The CatMan specialist should be able to assist with planning and advice, but this is not included in master server catalog merge.

Hi Michal,

concern is to merge mutiple existing MSDP data at remote location into new MSDP at centralised site. AIR will works fine for new backup jobs.

nbreplicate can be scripted for existing backups.

The process will be similar to your query over here: How to replicate backup images to DR manaully as replication job has been cancelled

Hey Marianne,

I think there is a chance of conflict in catalog as nbreplicate will try to update the backup image infomation in the catalog at centralised domain which is already exist due to merging of catalog from mutiple domains to centralised domain.

As I've said - discuss requirements and procedures with Catman resource. When all catalogs have been merged into one, you will use a simple bpduplicate to duplicate images from one MSDP to another. Only image catalog on new master will be updated. Old masters with MSDP will be demoted to media servers.
