Did you mean:

Catalog information then and now.

Main question: Is there a way to view old catalog information without destroying current catalog information?

Purpose of question: I would like to compare our company data backup information from old to current. What systems are using consuming the most tape storage?

Secondary question?  Would it be possible to create a VM of a sun server, install the NBU software, connect to the media server and library then load catalog information?

All that you are requesting can be done in a lab or practice DR site. I very strongly discourage any type of messin' around with a production server. Please.

Time to look into some backup reporting software. Veritas Backup Reporter (VBR) has a report that will tell you the top (ab)users of tape space. =)
