Catalog restore using differential incremental

Mohmec
Level 4

This is the scenario. Catalog is backed up via differential Incr and not cumulative Incr. The full recovery was succesful. However, from consequative 2, 3 4 incremental 4th was used to overwrite the catalog skipping 2nd and 3rd. If it was cumulative then all the changes would have been captured from 2nd and 3rd. Now, the company wants to overwrite using 2nd and 3rd so that nothing gets skipped.

My suggestion to them was to apply full+ 2, 3, 4 instead of just 2, 3.

Question: Will the Incr backups keep the "TIR" info and possible remove old images that it is not expecting?

Hi,

Its not skipped, it would restore everything up until the 4th DIFF. NetBackup does this by default, if you pick a date, it will get all the fulls, diffs, and incs to get you to that point. You don't have to manually go and restore each one.
