Client Backup Compression (Restoration throughput issue)

We have enabled backup compression in netbackup 7.0  and observed the below thigs.

Before Compression Enabled

1) Database Backup completed in 14 hours.

2) Database backup was 6 TB.

3) Restoration of the backup completed in 20 hours

After Enabling Compression

1) Database Backup completed in 9 hours.

2) Database backup was 1.4 TB.

3) Restoration of the backup took 36 hours.

There is only issue with Restoration throughput for compressed backup, it is taking more time when we use compression.

Please kindly let me know if there is any solution to increase the restoration throughput for compressed backup (whether there are any parameters we can modify).

Performance tuning for NetBackup for Microsoft SQL Server backups

Article URL http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH33423

" it is important to understand that in general terms, the faster a backup runs, the slower the restore will run."

If it's MS-SQL, i'd like to recommend go through Admin guide and search for large database restore. SQL does kind of activity prior to actual restore is begun. So from SQL end we can skip it. Check if it's your case
