Hello. I have Linux on Z and I am going here:
[root@rhel NetBackup_7.1_zLinuxR]# ls
Doc install LICENSE zlinuxR
and I get to the point where it asks for a license key. How do I just install the client?

Client are installed from the CLIENT cd/media, you're using the server cd/media. For 7.1. there might be 3 files that you need to combine to make the CLT (CLIENT) cd/media. Its a bit long ago so hope you have that media set.

Thank you. I don't have the cd/media. I have the tar files. Is that different?

See below:
[root@rhel symantec]# ls
IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6 IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6.zip NetBackup_7.1_zLinuxR
[root@rhel symantec]# cd IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6
[root@rhel IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6]# ls
client_bin.tar dir install_client move_libs PBX.tar.gz SYMCnbclt.rpm tar
client_config extract_java installpbx NB-Java.tar.gz sftp_to_client SYMCnbjava.rpm version
cp_to_client ftp_to_client JRE.tar.gz nbj.conf ssh_to_client SYMCnbjre.rpm VRTSpbx-1.5.0.6-6.RH_s390x64.rpm
[root@rhel IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6]# cd ..
[root@rhel symantec]# cd NetBackup_7.1_zLinuxR/

What you need to download is NetBackup_7.1_CLIENTS.tar.gz
Why still on version 7.1? It's quite old.

As I said previously, those are the server binaries. You could ask Symantec/Veritas for a TMP serial that might give you access to 7.1 on fileconnect. Not sure if its still available on there.
Then again, as Will said, why are you using 7.1?

Thanks for responding. It looks that that is what they gave us for a trial.
Is this what I need?
[root@rhel symantec]# cd IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6
[root@rhel IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6]# ls
client_bin.tar dir install_client move_libs PBX.tar.gz SYMCnbclt.rpm tar
client_config extract_java installpbx NB-Java.tar.gz sftp_to_client SYMCnbjava.rpm version
cp_to_client ftp_to_client JRE.tar.gz nbj.conf ssh_to_client SYMCnbjre.rpm VRTSpbx-1.5.0.6-6.RH_s390x64.rpm
[root@rhel IBMzSeriesRedHat2.6]# ./install_client
install_client requires execution with an absolute path.

Those are the Client binaries that is installed on a master that can be used for a push-install.
Client push-install from a master or media server is covered in NBU Installation Guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3647
(Use the Attachments button to download the pdf).
Look for this topic in Chapter 7:
About remote installation methods for UNIX clients

Thanks Marianne,
I need the master server to install the client?
09-21-2015 08:30 AM
Yes,
Add the client you want to install to to a policy first.
Then run the install_client using the full path and specfying the client name and ssh

Thanks. I was able to get the media server installed. Is there a way to access it on Linux? Meaning an admin client or something?
09-21-2015 09:11 AM
Thanks for your help. I ended up getting the admin client to install using x11 desktop

Have you seen this before?
[root@rhel bin]# ./install_client_files ssh 10.100.0.97 root
<16>bpauthorize main: Function connect_to_remote_server(rhel.infinite-blue.com) failed: 25
cannot connect on socket
You do not have the proper authorization to perform
this task. Please resolve and try again.

Are you using VXSS?
grep VXSS /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf
If so, you need to use bpnbat -login
But we seem to be getting off topic.

Thanks for the prompt responses!!
I will open a new topic.
