The acitvity monitor show what operation Netbackup carry out - like backup, restore, duplication & image clean

bpps command show what Netbackup processes (aka services) are running. The processes running carry out the operation you see in the activity monitor. E.g bptm is responsible for moving backup data to tape, lots of backup mean lots of bptm processes.

bpbrm is the backup and restore manager, it controls the bptm process. You can expect the bpbrm to be running until all related activities are done for a backup job - e.g dismounting a tape that happen after activity monitor has ended the job.
