Configuring SAN media server

I was reading some feedback by Mariana in the forum on configuring SAN media server

https://www.veritas.com/community/forums/how-configure-san-media-server

Remove client sotware (instructions in NBU installation Guide), install Server software (instructions in NBU installation guide), add SERVER entry on master server for this new server and restart NBU on master.

1) We need to convert few customer servers backup to be SAN media server and normally they only approve making changes or rebooting server over weekend. So if we are required to restart NBU on master this will affect a lot of customers backups. Is there any way we can make the change to convert the customer server to be SAN media server without restarting NBU on master ?

2) Can we add SERVER entry on master server few days in advanced and restart NBU at that time?

Thanks

Chan

You can try without restarting NBU (specifically NBU Database service) but I doubt that it will work.

When you add Additional Servers in NBU master server Host Properties, it will also tell you that a restart is needed.

Commands to try in order to bypass restart:

bprdreq -rereadconfig

nbemmcmd -addhost -machinename <string> -machinetype media -netbackupversion <<level>.<major level>.<minor level>.<hot fix>> -operatingsystem <hpux | linux | rs6000 | sgi | solaris | tru64 | windows> -masterserver <string>
( http://www.veritas.com/docs/000043801 )

No guarantees!

2) Can we add SERVER entry on master server few days in advanced and restart NBU at that time?

Yes. Absolutely.
