Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Hi i am trying to connect with a Java Administration Console to my master server. First i had an issue with an expired certificate but this has been solved now.

My Error is same like "https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100042035"

----------------

Error Message

NetBackup Administration Console (popup):
Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer. You may not be able to perform the functions in the Administration Console that depends on connectivity to this service. Please ensure the nbsl service is up and running.

This message is displayed at the bottom of the login screen:

Connecting NetBackup Service Layer...

After clicking on OK from the first message, this second message may be displayed:

Backup Policy Management (popup):
Could not get Class_att_defs information: A connection to <server_hostname> could not be established. Verify services or daemons are up and running.
You will not be allowed to change NetBackup policy attributes for server '<server_hostname>'.

----------

But the solution does not help in my case. I´ve enabled logging on level 4 and have a log file attached. Maybe someone can help.here...

thanks

Kai

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Had you check if nbsl service is up?
If you are not sure, restart netbackup

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

sure nbatd, nbwmc and nbsl are running. Restarted everything several times...

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

@Kai2209

Can you show us output of bpps -x ?

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Hello @Kai2209 , as first start, try to restart pbx service I can see that is running since 29th Oct

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

and also do this :

1.  Log into the PC where the console is attempting to be started.
2.   cd C:\Users\<userid>\AppData\Roaming\VERITAS\VSS\
3.  Move the contents of the directory to a temporary location.
4.  Start the Java GUI and answer "Yes" to the pop up.
5.  If everything functions correctly, remove the files from step 3 from the temporary location.

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

I do not have a Unix or Linux master server to compare processes, but I do not see an individual nbwmc process running?

Maybe someone else in this conversation can check and compare?

I do see the process as part of Java, but I'm not sure if should be running as a standalone process.

Next thing will probably be to dig into nbsl log using vxlogview command.
e.g.
vxlogview -o 132 -t 00:20:00
Above command will display logs for the last 20 minutes.
Adjust this period to cover the restart of NBU.

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Hi hha_mea,

just restarted pbx but still same issue.

I also did the steps above...without success.

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Hello @Kai2209

could you please follow what @Marianne suggested?

Next thing will probably be to dig into nbsl log using vxlogview command.
e.g.
vxlogview -o 132 -t 00:20:00
Above command will display logs for the last 20 minutes.
Adjust this period to cover the restart of NBU.

also, take note of the hour and try to access again to the console and share jbp logs

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

I don't an error regarding nbsl, could you please post jbp logs for the same attempt?

also, run this on master :

bpclntcmd -pn

bpclntcmd -self

bptestnetconn -a -v -s -p -c

one more thing, since you are on linux, try to lunch java console from mobaxterm or any other ssh tool with this command jnbSA and try to access

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

attached is the jbp log for same attempt like above...

Is there maybe an issue with FQDN and short name?

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

I don’t see any issue with short or fqdn name
Did you try opening the console through jnbsa from the master server as suggested before?
In logs I can see there is this error:

PortalException: Status = 0:A connection to lgwnb01 could not be established. Verify services or daemons are up and running.

Telnet the master on 1556 and vnetd from the server from where you are attempting to open the console.

If still not working, try a reboot

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

ok. just an idea.

No not yet. I tried this some time ago without sucess. But let me check again.

telnet from clients (i used 3 dieffernt installations) is ok. But what means vnetd from server? Do not unstand what you mean.

A reboot was also not sucessful :(

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

@Kai2209 telnet from the machine you are attempting to open the console to the master server:

telnet master_server 1556

telnet master_server 13724

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

yes this works for both ports.

just do not know what vnetd from server to client means

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

did you try jnbSA from master from mobaxterm?

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

yes but this is not working...

Re: Could not connect to NetBackup Service Layer...with Java Admin Console

Is it the same error using jnbSA?
