Creating NBCCR

Hi,

Planning to upgrade Netbackup 6.5.4 to Netbackup 7.5

Need to know how to create an NBCCR for repairing in-consistencies found in NBCC output.

Netbackup Master - 6.5.4 Enterprise
OS - Solaris 10 SPARC

I tried contacting support but did not find them helpful

Regards

Sammeer,

you need to run NBCC -upgrade. I would advise using NBCC 7.5

You can download that from here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH156730

Send in the resulting output from output\nbcc\ to Symantec Technical Support (you need to open a Technical Support case) who will process the file for you and let you know if any fixes are in the resulting SRA file. You then run NBCCR with this SRA file in the same directory.

NBCCR 7.5 can be found here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH156731

In what way were Symantec support not helpful?

That's a bit disconcerting coming from a "SE"....

Even more so, in that this T/N states:

Symantec technical support interacts with the customer to determine which repairs are needed. Undesirable repair actions are deleted or commented out of the SRA file. Each line of the SRA file contains one repair action that is paired with an associated parameter.

& *personally* wouldn't want to do this without the input of Support, altho' I'm sure it's feasible depending on what is in the SRA.

For completeness altho' you're probably already aware & have these already (***EDIT*** & revaroo's already posted them - ninja'd!) current NBCC/R T/N's (README's within d/l's):

Why did you not find them helpful ?

What was the case number ?

NBCC and NBCCR are the files you download, you run NBCC and send in the output.

Support then run NBCCA on the NBCC output and this should create a number of files.  These should then be manually be reviewed and if confirmed that any fixes listed in the SRA file  are valid, then this can be sent out.

Then the process repeats until all NBCC issues are resolved that can be.

There is no option , if you want NBCC, than to go through support.

You can't do it without support unfortunately, as you need support to process the NBCC output, to get the SRA file.

Even then it can be difficult.  NBCCA (bit support runs) is not magic, it can only make recommendations, and the SRA file should be manually checked before it is sent out - it should NOT automatiaclly be sent.

It can't fix everything, and you sometimes "get this and this is wrong but it doesn't tell you why " - then you have to go off and find the reason yourself.

Had forgotten about the NBCCA until your earlier post & it seemed to ring a bell somewhere. Was therefore totally mis-interpreting what the T/N was saying.

Need to change my statement from "...wouldn't want to do this..." to "...couldn't do this..." but irrespective I *wouldn't* anyway, was bad enough running an EEB a few years back that support had supplied me to 'cleanse' a few image fragments!

Thanks for the clarification - again!
