Appreaciate if some can shed some light for me on this.......

I keep getting the error "current media A00020 complete, requesting next media Any".  What does "...requesting next media any" actually means?  There are still a lot of tapes in my scratch pool. 

There was a load operation error on media A00020 but can't Netbackup just continue the backup using a new tape in the scratch?  Thanks.

Are all other tapes in scratch pool configured as HCART2?

You can try freezing the tape (bpmedia -freeze -m A00020) and re-start the backup again. It shouldn't attempt backup on that tape then.

I've got the same messages. I'm not sure if they starts after update to NB 6.0. It's not only one tape affected. I killed the job and restart it. After that, the backup runs to the media. For me it looks like a communication-problem between Master- Media-Server and tape library. In activity monitor it looks like the media is mounted, but at the library the media is not mounted. I've opened a call.

I am having the exact same problem tonight !! Here is my setup and hopefully I will provide the solution when I am able to fix it.

Running Net Backup 6.0 with MP4

Master server is a Windows 2003 EE R2 server. (Fully patched with all current windows patches.)

Media Server is a WIndows 2003 EE R2 Server. (Fully patched with all current windows patches.)

Media server has two tape libraries attached through SAN fiber connection.

1st library is an HP EML E-Series with 4 LTO2 tape drives. (Library and drives have the latest firmware)

2nd library is an HP SSL1016 LTO2 Autoloader attached to a HP NS1200 320 4GB Fiber to SCSI bridge. (Library, tape drive and Fiber to SCSI bridage are all patched to latest firmware).

I am able to inventory the libraries and I have inserted brand new tapes with new labels into the robot. I inventory the robot and it find the new tape. When I kick off a manual backup the robot picker loads the tape into the drive but a few minutes later I get the message that states "CURRENT MEDIA COMPLETE <MEDIA ID> REQUESTING NEXT MEDIA, ANY."

I have stopped and started all the services on the NBU Master server and on the Media server but this has not helped.

I have also made sure I have the correct symantec tape/library drivers by installing the following executable : "SymantecDeviceDriversforWindowsServers20070215_287850.exe"   This has not helped either.

I am currently on hold with Symantec waiting for a tech. I will keep you posted since this problems seems to be an open issue for a few people.

Well after 1:30 minutes on hold in a queue for Symantec support to answer my call I hung up!

The next morning I removed all previous setup for the troublesome robot by first removing the volume group, storage unit, drives and robot and then re-created everything. For some strange reason this time around things worked fine.  I am able to backup to the EML and the drives don't go down and I no longer get the "requesting next media" message.

However, I am now having a similar problem with a different newly added robot and will try the same. Hopefully this same steps will work. I wonder if 6.0 MP4 is flakey.
