... recently created 30 drives is not showing in netbackup 7.5...

Drives or cartridges?

If drives - you need to check OS first. NBU needs OS for access to drives.

Are tape drives showing up in OS Device Manager? Have you installed drivers for the tape drives?
If Yes, to above questions - are drives responding to scsi-commands? Use 'scan' to check. (Command is in ...\veritas\volmgr\bin)

If drive show up in scan command, use Device Config wizard in NBU GUI to add drives to NBU.

If you have added drives, you need to run the device config wizard to configure these into NBU.

An inventory woill not update hardware.

Here is one of many technotes explaining how to do this.

Your scan output is only showing 30 drives, you need to check your Operating System device paths are being created.

Can we see the output of:

ls -l /dev/rmt/*cbn

I can see all Drives when i gave scan command .when i try to Inventory robot and update volume configuration.I am getting

Volume configuration is up-to-date with robot contents. But other 30 drives not showing in drives list.

Two different things:

Inventory is for media - tapes/cartridges.
scan shows tape drives.

What exactly have you added?
Media or tape drives?

According to 'scan', there are only 20 tape drives in the robot. And 100 slots for media.

Number of Drives : 20
Number of Slots  : 100

Ha ha ha ... typical, I disappear to get a drink before coming back to count tape drives and Marianne and Revaroo pop up ...

ls -l /dev/rmt/*cbn might be a bit difficult, looks like Windows to me.

x3 robots are seen in scan, each has 20 drives, so 60 in total.

There is no separate pass thru driver in windows, so the fact that scan only shows 20 drives means there is most likely an issue between the drives and windows.

All scan is doing, is sending a scsi command to the drives that are visible to the OS.  If things are missing it menas either the device is not visible to the OS (most likely in my experience), or, the device is visible but not responding to the scsi command.

I would start be looking in control panel at the attached storage - how many drives are seen by windows ?

Ensure Windows Device Manager can see the tape drives.

Now my drives showing only 10 Numbers after i did some changes. This result cause data lost?

Tape drives do not hold data. Media/cartridges do.

We cannot help you with Data Domain configuration.
Probably a good idea to invest in training or for a DD consultant to come on site.
Or find EMC forum for DD advice...

Hi Van,

There is no problem with datadomain there it is showing 60 drives.I consulted they said to contact application end. Even morning am able to see 30 drives in netbackup. after changed some setting in netbackup  i am not able to see even 30 drives also there could be problem with netbackup.

1.

Windows device manager only shows 30 drives, so 30 are missing.

How EMC can work ouit this is NBUs fault I do not know.  It is a problem between DD and Windows.

If the OS cannot see the drives, it is not NBUs fault, and there is nothing you can do in NBU to fix it.

Speak to EMC again, and explain that the OS cannot see the devices.

2.

We know have another problem.

What setting did you change.  From your description it shounds like from the 30 drives NBU could see, know you only see 10, so you have lost '20'.

Is the OS still seeing the 30 drives ?

If so, is scan still showing the original 30 drives?

If scan is showing 30 drives, you probably just need to run the Device config wizard to put these back, but it would be better if you told us what you did.

If scan is only showing 10 drives, then whatever you changed was changed at either the OS or DD side.

So, just to summerise, and you can show this thread to EMC.

If the Windows OS is not seeing the drives, then it is not a problem with NetBackup, it is a problem between Windows and the Datadomain.  Seeing Networker (also EMC) works in a similar way (devices have to first be visible to the OS and show in the 'inquire' command (EMC Networkers version of scan) then I would have expected them to know this.

This means that your configuration on the Data Domain is incorrect.
NBU is simply telling you what the robot is reporting.

Check output of 'scan -changer'.

Yes Van you are rite the problem with data domain after changing some settings in data domain i am able to see.Thank you very much guys to helping me a lot.I have one more doubt i configaured all drives again by using device config wiz this configuration results in data loss ??

No. no data loss.

You can do pretty much what you like with the drives, take them out to dinner if you so wish ...  The data lives on the 'tapes', and so is quite safe.
