De-install the bare metal restore deamon on sles 11

Hi Team,

1. How does one de-install the bare metal restore deamon on sles 11 ?

2. The initial; client install is from NetBackup_7.0_CLIENTS_GA.tar.gz - is there a parameter to add to the install command that doesn't install the bare metal restore daemon.

3. Is the bare metal restore daemon added by the patches NB_CLT_7.0.1.tar and/or NB_JAV_7.0.1.tar

4. is it simpler to turn this daemon off than de-install it.

5. Does the netbackup client require xinetd/ can it be run from xinetd (the reason to ask this is that our install procedure for 6.5.4 required starting xinetd)

1. You do not uninstall BMR components. Rather, you deactivate them. In NetBackup7.1 BMR master server is bundled with NetBackup master server and BMR boot server is installed with NetBackup client. Deactivate the BMR master server by deleting the license key from the list of current NetBackup licenses. Before you delete the license key, you should remove the BMR database.

2.,3,4, On the Netbackup master server as root user:

To remove the BMR database, execute the following command:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bmrsetupmaster -undo -f
To list and delete keys, enter the following command:
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/get_license_key

5. Yes still need xinetd started.

This info and more is in the BMR admin Guide.

As Stuart mentioned you can not explicitely remove BMR daemon post 7.0 version. It is bundled together with NB master.

In case you have not yet ran "bmrsetupmaster", then BMR server daemon stops automatically once it identifies bmr setup is not done yet.

Basically bmr server setup is kept on-demand by executing "bmrsetupmaster" cli.

In case you have executed this command-line and now want to disable BMR then try running above bmrsetupmaster -undo command. If it still fails then remove BMRDB* files from data/db directory manually. Restart NB services and now you can find BMR service stopping automatically.

thanks.
