You cannot dedupe to tape. You need a 64-bit media server with sufficient cpu memory and disk space to config as dedupe media server. See these manuals: NBU Deduplication Guide http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127071 NBU Deduplication: Additional Info http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77575

What Marianne Says is correct, To add CLient side dedup would have more memory utilisation on the client side the best possible solution is to do media server deduplication for all the clients which need it.

Adding a major feature such as dedup to an exsisiting environemnt requires detailed planning and design, not just a few questions on a forum.

Many NBU issues are caused by incorrectly designed systems, and some of the problems seen cannot be fixed, simply because the system is incorrectly designed (underpowered is a common issue).
