Catalog recovers all the servers, devices, media, clients and images associated to all the media servers.

You cannot delete Media server from netbackup if there are any devices assigned to this media servers.

First move all the images/medias from  pmssfss11 and pmssdbs05 to any other active media server or master server.

Then delete Drives configured on these media servers and if there is any robot configured, you need to delete the robot as well.

Then try to delete Media server using nbemmcmd -deletehost.

Hi,

Your server names in the sites have to be the same. If you want to change the name you'll have to perform additional steps for the recovery (which you might have figured out yourself). Alternatively a Symantec consulting partner with the relevant training will be able to assist you with this.

What does  the output of nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose show?

You can use the 'Decommission TN' (posted by Nicolai) to decommission pmssfss11 and pmssdbs05 at SITE B.

I hope that it was a typo error in your opening post and that the DR master server has the same name as the production master (PMSSAPP27)? As Riaan pointed out - this is a basic requirement for successful catalog recovery.

Hi,

Little confused now.

  1. What is the server name that you ran this command from?
  2. Is this server in DR?
  3. Did you apply any type of host entry on this server to point pmssapp27 to the local server? If the local server is indeed smssapp27.....
  4. What are you trying to achieve with this exercise? Simple DR testing, full failover, etc?
  5. Why are the other media servers reachable (this netbackup master server can connect to them) and the ones you want to delete not?

You can't delete a media server if it's referenced in the Netbackup configuration. This could be configured tape drive, robot or storage unit just to mention some of the items.

If you know exactly what you are doing, try using the the nbdecommissions utility in [install_path]/netbackup/bin/admincmd

Hello Riaan Badenhorst,

1. The server name is Master in DR site the same name Production, Production join domain, DR site not join.

2. Yes it is.

3. Because I want to use catalog form Production, I can restore data backup before,

4. I am testing for BCP (Business continuity planning) of my company.

5. In DR site, I have two new media server, but when I recover Catalog, it has old media server. So I want to delete them.

Thank you.

So, PLEASE use steps in the 'decommission' TN to remove 'old server' and assign image to DR media server.

See TN http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH130438 for NBU 7.0 nbdecommission download and examples.

nbdecommission -oldserver <hostname> -newserver <hostname>

nbdecommission -oldserver siteA-media1 -newserver siteB-media1
